Kojima Productions New Announcements: OD “Knock” Trailer, PHYSINT Game, and Death Stranding: Mosquito Anime

During a special Tokyo Game Show 2025 livestream celebrating Kojima Productions’ 10th anniversary, Hideo Kojima revealed several exciting updates on his upcoming projects. The highlights included a creepy teaser trailer for his next horror game titled OD: “Knock”, first details about a new stealth-action title codenamed PHYSINT, and confirmation of an animated project called Death Stranding: Mosquito, an anime set in the universe of his acclaimed game Death Stranding. Below, we break down each of these announcements in detail.
OD: Kojima’s New Horror Game (“Knock” Teaser)
OD is the working title of the next horror game from Kojima Productions, being developed in partnership with Xbox Game Studios. At the event, Kojima showcased a spine-chilling teaser trailer dubbed “Knock”, which was captured in Unreal Engine 5. In the footage, the apparent protagonist (played by actress Sophia Lillis) steps into a gloomy room and begins lighting candles on a small table, while rain pours outside and an ominous knocking sound echoes through the scene. As each candle is lit, strange and terrifying phenomena start to occur, creating an atmosphere of mounting dread that promises to make even seasoned horror fans jump out of their seats.
Kojima stated that he aims to blur the line between cinema and games with this project, though he hasn’t yet revealed exactly how that will be achieved. On stage to help unveil the project, Microsoft’s Phil Spencer called OD “bold, unique, and unmistakably from [Kojima’s] studio,” confirming that development is well underway and that Microsoft is deeply involved in supporting the game’s cutting-edge visuals and technology via Unreal Engine. Interestingly, Kojima also enlisted filmmaker Jordan Peele to collaborate on the OD project in some capacity. Kojima noted that Peele is working on a separate element of the overall OD experience, which may be why the game itself carries the subtitle “Knock” – to differentiate it from whatever Peele’s portion might be.
No release date has been announced for OD yet, but the project is shaping up to be highly ambitious. Kojima has explained (half-jokingly) that, despite the teaser’s focus on candle-lighting, “it’s not a game about lighting candles” – in fact, he quipped that it will be so scary “you’ll probably poo your pants or whatever” when playing. OD was originally teased in 2023 and boasts a high-profile cast including Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schafer, and Udo Kier, suggesting a cinematic approach to its characters and storytelling. With OD: “Knock”, Kojima appears ready to return to the kind of intense horror atmosphere reminiscent of his P.T. demo, offering a uniquely immersive and innovative horror experience for gamers.
PHYSINT: Kojima’s Next Tactical Espionage Game
The second major reveal was PHYSINT (working title), a new stealth-action espionage game that Kojima Productions is developing in partnership with Sonypcgamer.com. Kojima unveiled a first teaser poster for the game during the event, showing a deliberately shadowed protagonist and evoking the vibe of his classic stealth series Metal Gear Solid. In fact, Kojima confirmed that PHYSINT will embrace the “tactical espionage action” genre, meaning the style of gameplay focused on stealth, strategy, and spy action that his Metal Gear series pioneered.

While plot details remain under wraps, the first casting announcements have been made. The game will feature Korean star Don Lee (Ma Dong-seok, known for Train to Busan and Marvel’s Eternals), Australian actress Charlee Fraser (recently seen in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga), and Japanese actress Minami Hamabe (Godzilla Minus One) in key roles. This international casting hints at a globe-trotting storyon an epic scale. Kojima noted that the long Hollywood actors’ strike (the SAG-AFTRA strike) impacted PHYSINT’s development by delaying the casting process for the lead character, whose actor has yet to be revealed – hence the protagonist’s face is obscured in the teaser poster. However, progress is being made: Kojima’s team is even working with 3Lateral (experts in facial scanning and MetaHuman technology) to develop new techniques for capturing the actors’ likenesses with extreme fidelity, particularly that of Minami Hamabe.
On the technical front, PHYSINT will run on an advanced version of the Decima Engine – the graphics engine behind Death Stranding and Horizon Zero Dawn – pushing even further in terms of visual realism and world simulation. Kojima has hinted that the goal is to merge the experience of a game and a movie: “[PHYSINT] will be both a game and a movie at the same time… if your mother walks in on you playing, she’ll think you’re watching a movie,” he said. This suggests PHYSINT is aiming for an unprecedented level of cinematic presentation and narrative immersion in a game.
Because the project is still in a conceptual stage, PHYSINT won’t be arriving anytime soon – Kojima estimated it could be about five to six years away from release. It’s likely targeting next-generation hardware(many speculate it will launch on a future PlayStation 6, given Kojima referred to it as a PlayStation–exclusive). Despite the long wait, the prospect of a new tactical espionage title by Kojima – so many years after his lastMetal Gear – has already ignited excitement among fans. Everyone is eager to see how the visionary designer will once again reinvent the stealth genre on modern platforms.
Death Stranding: Mosquito – A Death Stranding Anime Project
Kojima Productions isn’t focusing solely on games. At the same event, an anime project titled Death Stranding: Mosquito was officially announced. Death Stranding: Mosquito (working title) is an animated film project set in the world of Death Stranding. It’s being produced by the Japanese studio ABC Animation, with Hiroshi Miyamoto directing and Aaron Guzikowski – known for films like Prisoners– writing the screenplay. Hideo Kojima himself will serve as a producer on the anime.
In the teaser shown, the anime features a stunning visual style and intense action sequences. There’s noticeably a lot more hand-to-hand combat than fans might recall from the original Death Stranding game– at one point the teaser even shows a giant, black-tentacled canine-like creature, hinting at new threats – and the animation quality appears top-notch. The artwork and motion on display are of premium quality, far above the typical quick anime spin-off. It’s clear this project has a significant budget and attention to detail, which has already impressed those who have seen the early footage.
As of now, no release window has been announced for Death Stranding: Mosquito, and even the title is subject to change (it’s still a working title). Notably, this anime project is separate from the live-action Death Stranding film currently in development in Hollywood. (Kojima is also involved in a movie adaptation being written and directed by Michael Sarnoski, which will tell an original story in the Death Stranding universe with new characters not seen in the game Death Stranding: Mosquito thus represents a transmedia expansion of the Death Stranding universe. After introducing players to the unique “strand game” genre in 2019, Kojima is now exploring that same world through the lens of Japanese animation, offering new stories and perspectives for fans of Sam Porter Bridges and his journey.
